Synology Showcases Data Protection Solutions Addressing Ransomware Threats In India

Synology, a data management and security solution, held a briefing in New Delhi to address the growing challenge of ransomware attacks and evolving data management trends in India. The event focused on the impact of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA) on businesses and highlighted recent data breaches that have affected Indian organisations.

Synology presented its backup solutions, Active backup suite and snapshot replication, as a way to combat ransomware and ensure data recovery.  The demonstration showcased how these solutions can prevent unauthorised access, address accidental deletion and streamline data recovery processes.

“The landscape of data management and security is evolving rapidly,” said Russell Chen, Country Manager, Synology SAARC region. “Our event aimed to provide insights into the latest industry trends and emerging technologies, empowering businesses with the knowledge to effectively protect their data.”

A key feature of Synology’s data protection strategy is Secure SignIn, a login framework that strengthens account security for Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), the operating system used by their Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices. This framework uses multiple verification methods to reduce the risk of unauthorised access.

For centralised data protection, Synology highlighted active backup for business, a solution that protects virtual environments, physical servers, file servers and personal computers. This solution allows administrators to manage data protection strategies from a central console.

Snapshot replication was presented as a way to efficiently recover data in case of accidental deletion or ransomware attacks.  The demonstration included a simulated ransomware attack followed by a swift recovery using Snapshot Replication. This highlighted the importance of rapid and comprehensive data recovery solutions for businesses.

Synology also showcased its comprehensive product lines designed for businesses of all sizes. The new flagship high-density storage server, HD6500, was a particular focus, offering up to 4.8 Petabytes of storage capacity. This server can act as a central repository for files and a backup pool for large organisations.

Synology reported a 20 per cent market growth last year, driven by increased demand from both SMBs and large enterprises. The company attributed this growth to India’s emergence as a data centre hub and government initiatives encouraging businesses to prioritise IT security spending.

“Synology anticipates another year of substantial growth in the enterprise segment,” said Russell Chen. “We are developing innovative solutions and hardware to be released later this year. These upcoming products will empower businesses to navigate the evolving landscape of data challenges.”
